Police are trying to identify a man who raped a woman in Hawthorne after meeting her through an online dating service.

Detectives suspect the assailant lives somewhere near a CVS store at 4775 W. Rosecrans Ave., Hawthorne police Lt. Scott Swain said.

The crime occurred Nov. 4. Police said the man took the victim to the CVS to buy alcohol, then drove her to an apartment, where the rape occurred. The victim was unsure of the apartment's address, but said it took about three to four minutes to get there.

The assailant's apartment was inside a small, tan complex with 10 to 12 units. It had an open-air parking area located in the middle of the complex.

The man used the name "Cardon" and said he moved to Southern California from Atlanta in June and works at a law firm.

Officers asked anyone with information about the man to contact Detective Matt Lucero at 310-349-2844.
