Another wave of cats has left our shelter so full that we'll be celebrating Black Friday as Black-FUR-iday.
On Friday, Nov. 23, Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter will host its second "Black FUR-iday" Pet Adoption event at the shelter's Santa Cruz location, 2200 Seventh Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Celebrate Buy Nothing Day by adopting a new pet! All cats, dogs and rabbits that have more than 50 percent black fur will be offered for adoption for only $25! All other cats, dogs and rabbits without black fur will be half price. That adoption fee includes: their spay or neuter, first round of vaccinations, microchip, and a wellness veterinary visit -- making it an approximately $250 package worth of care!
If your family has the time in their lives and space in their hearts for the commitment of two kittens, you can adopt two for the regular price of just one during this event. Kittens of similar ages who grow up together often grow into very well-socialized adults cats, who always have a friend at paw (even when their people are out for the day at work and school) to keep them from getting lonesome. If you have an older pet in your household already, bringing home just one kitten (full of youthful spunk and fun) can be overwhelming. With another sibling to amuse each other, two kittens often aren't such a bother to an older cat or dog.
These two charmers are a set of siblings, who came to us as strays. Someone
