Man convicted for assaulting 12-year-old
A Salinas man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in July 2010, District Attorney Dean Flippo announced Thursday.
Rodolfo Barreto, 34, was found guilty of one count of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of forcible lewd acts on a child under the age of 14. The jury, which deliberated for two days after a seven-week trial, deadlocked on four other counts.
Barreto sexually assaulted the girl in his Las Palmas home on July 4, 2010.
He faces a maximum sentence of 23 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 24 and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
Fair announces theme for 2013
The Salinas Valley Fair announced that next year's theme will be "Country Nights and Carnival Lights." The theme was chosen in a contest that drew more than 70 entries.
The fair runs May 16-19 at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.
Kick back for Shoe Game repeat
The Nov. 10 football game between Pacific Grove and Carmel, known as "The Shoe Game," will air again at 10a.m. Saturday and at 6:30p.m. Thanksgiving Day on MCAET.

Alliance on Aging seeks tax prepare volunteers
The Alliance on Aging is seeking volunteers to assist with its 2013 Tax Counseling for the Elderly program.
Tax preparation experience is required, but additional training will be provided by the Internal Revenue Service and state Franchise Tax Board.
Volunteers would work weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3p.m. at sites throughout the county.
