Santa to visit tree-lighting Friday

Santa Claus is coming to downtown Boulder Creek on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

This year's tree-lighting event is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Highway 9.

Entertainment and caroling will take place at 5 p.m. on the main stage behind Boulder Creek Hardware. Most Unique Parties & Ponies will perform a magic show, followed by face painting and balloon twisting, plus the local Jazzercise dancers.

Santa is scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m. After the tree is lit, he'll be at the Boulder Creek Pizza & Pub with Mrs. Claus for photos.

Horse-drawn carriage rides will depart in front of Jenna Sue's, carriage rides and Santa photos cost $5 each, with proceeds going to the Boulder Creek Business Association CANpaign Fund to Light Up The Town. For information, go to http://bcba.net.

Employment workshop for women set Nov. 28

Women Ventures/Job Connect Program will host a free workshop from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m Nov. 28 at the Workforce Career Center, 2045 40th Ave.

The workshop is for women older than age 18.

The event includes apprenticeship information, career exploration into the construction trades, "green" job and business opportunities, up-to-date job readiness skill building and personalized follow-up career planning sessions.

The Women Ventures/Job Connection Program was established in 1999. It has trained and helped hundreds of women to find jobs.

Health agency moves headquarters

The Health Improvement Partnership of Santa Cruz County is moving its offices, effective Wednesday, down the street to 1800 Green Hills Road, Suite 100.

The phone numbers remain the same, with administration at 430-5606, but there is a new fax number, 430-9664. Partnership staff use the email suffix @hipscc.org; the suffix @ccah-alliance.org is no longer functional.

TimeBank celebrates first year Dec. 6

TimeBank Santa Cruz, a system of reciprocal service exchange, will celebrate its first year with an event 5-7 p.m. Dec. 6 at Verve Coffee Roasters, 1540 Pacific Ave.

There will be birthday cake and a chance to meet TimeBank members.

TimeBank members have traded more than 1,800 hours since the system launched in December 2011, according to TimeBank Director Bonnie Linden, putting the monthly growth rate at 5 percent.

"The faster and bigger the TimeBank grows, and the more community connections it fosters, the more effectively it can meet members' needs and strengthen our local economy," she said.

Mad Hatter Tea benefits Toys for Tots

Seascape Beach Resort will host its annual Mad Hatter's Holiday Tea Party to benefit the 2012 Toys for Tots Santa Cruz County campaign 12:30-3:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at 1 Seascape Resort Drive. Last year's event sold out, resulting in the distribution of toys to more than 500 children.

The party will feature a production under the direction of Nathan Figone and include beloved characters such as Alice, the White Rabbit and Mad Hatter. There will be face-painting, crafts, photo opportunities with the characters and a raffle.

Every guest is asked to donate at least one new unwrapped toy; Toys for Tots requests no guns or toys of aggression, and for health reasons cannot accept unpacked stuffed animals.
