SANTA CRUZ - A 26-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday evening after she allegedly threatened a First Alarm guard at San Lorenzo Park.

Two Santa Cruz police officers were dispatched to the park around 5:40 p.m. for a report of a woman causing a disturbance with a security guard. The guard told the officers he had contacted Lynn Abernathy and told her that the park closed at sunset and she would need to leave. He said she became irate, yelled profanities and threatened him.

When officers spoke with her, she uttered more profanities and began to walk away, refusing commands to stop. When one of the officers started to detain her, she began kicking him, police spokesman Zach Friend said. The second officer assisted in detaining.

Officers say she was in possession of drug paraphernalia at the time. Abernathy was arrested on suspicion of that charge as well as resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.

It was her second arrest in two days, having been arrested the prior day on a warrant. She had kicked the officer who tried to arrest her for that too, Friend said.
