Open house planned for Safe Place
Community Human Services and Safe Place will hold an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 30 at 590 Pearl St.
The event features tours of Safe Place, interaction with staff and clients, food, beverages and youth-made crafts and art work available for purchase. All proceeds raised will benefit Safe Place clients.

Holiday tree lighting planned
The Pacific Grove annual holiday tree lighting ceremony will take place at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 3 at Jewell Park, Forest and Central avenues.
Music will be provided by the Defense Language Institute Joint Service Band and Choir, followed by the Robert Down Elementary School choir.
Lights will be turned on at 6 p.m. followed by refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus in Chautauqua Hall.
Tree lighting at Devendorf Park
Carmel will hold its annual holiday tree lighting at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Devendorf Park at Ocean and Junipero avenues.
Firefighters will deliver Santa Claus, and the event will include live entertainment, with the tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.
An open house at Carmel Plaza will follow.
Man shot while traveling in car
An 18-year-old man was shot while traveling in a car on the 600 block of St. Edwards Avenue early Thursday morning, Salinas police said.
The man was treated for a minor wound on his upper back area, police said.
Police said the incident is considered gang-related.
Tea, fashion show for VNA program
A tea and fashion show to raise money for scholarships to the VNA Adult Day Service Center will be held from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 9 at Park Lane 200 Glenwood Circle.
