Raheem Ford, 19, was booked Thursday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for the shooting, which resulted in a 65-year-old man fighting for his life at a local hospital and also left the suspect's 17-year-old girlfriend suffering from a gun shot wound, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Stover.
Carson Station deputies were sent to a home in the 19300 block of Coslin Avenue at about 5:34 a.m. Thursday on a call of a family-related dispute. When they arrived they were told the suspect fled from the location, Stover said.
"While we were out searching the area for the suspect â ¦ deputies heard gunshots coming from the residence," Stover said.
Lt. Arthur Escamillas said there were four people inside the home, including the suspect's 17-year-old girlfriend. The first victim shot was a 65-year-old man, who is related to the teen girl. After he was shot in the torso the girl and two other women in the home rushed the suspect and tackled him, wrestling him to the ground.
It was during that struggle that the girl was shot in the buttocks, Escamillas said.
Deputies who were patrolling the area heard the shots and rushed back to the house, where they found the 65-year-old victim and the girl and the two women.
"The female victim and (two other women) had subdued and dragged the suspect outside," and held him for deputies, the lieutenant said.
While the girl underwent surgery early Thursday and was believed to be in good condition, the 65-year-old victim was in surgery throughout much of the morning and afternoon. He was listed in critical but stable condition Thanksgiving night, Escamillas said.
The 19-year-old suspect, who allegedly returned to the home as deputies fanned out through the neighborhood and shot the victims, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
No deputies and no other residents in the area were injured, he added.
Ford, who has listed a number of different residences recently, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon based on all four victims, the sergeant and lieutenant said.
According to the Sheriff's Inmate Information Center, Ford is being held in lieu of $1
million bail and is expected to be arraigned at the Compton Superior Court Monday.
If the 65-year-old victim does not survive, Raheem will likely face an additional charge of murder, Escamillas said.
