Area cities are planning Christmas tree lighting ceremonies this week and next, including:

PARAMOUNT

The city of Paramount's annual holiday tree lighting ceremony will be from 5-7 p.m Wednesday at the Paramount Pond, at the intersection of Jackson Street and Paramount Boulevard.

Entertainment will include local dance companies, church choirs and the marching band and choir from Paramount High School.

SIGNAL HILL

The city of Signal Hill will host its Christmas tree lighting ceremony from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Discovery Well Park, 2200 Temple Ave.

Included in the celebration will be festive treats and holiday music. The actual tree lighting is scheduled for 6 p.m.

BELLFLOWER

The city of Bellflower will host its annual Christmas tree lighting event at 6:30 p.m. Friday at 16615 Bellflower Blvd. in downtown Bellflower.

The Christmas tree is located on the corner of Bellflower Boulevard and Belmont Street in the Friendship Square.

Santa Claus will be there, the Mayfair High School Vocal Ensemble will perform holiday songs, and there will be holiday crafts and refreshments.

There will also be a rink for scooters and skates. Children must wear a helmet to enter the rink.

city of Downey will host its Christmas tree lighting event from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 5 at Downey City Hall, 11111 Brookshire Ave.

The free event will feature entertainment from local schools and a snow play area. There will be a visit from Santa Claus, and food, refreshments will be sold.
