Ellie Wilson of Bellflower is heading to San Diego this week for the annual Gingerbread City 2012, the largest gingerbread competition on the West Coast.
She has constructed a roughly 30- by 40-foot rendering of Poseidon, in line with the "Myths & Legends" theme of the contest. The massive structure is made of chocolate, gum paste and other ingredients, including of course, gingerbread.
The contest requires that the majority of the edifice must consist of the spiced bread, with the entire structure made of edible products.
Top prize in the contest is $2,500 for the grand category, and $1,000 in the petite category.
Judging begins Thursday, with a gala event on Saturday. All proceeds from the contest benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego.
