LONG BEACH - A sedan slammed through the wall of a North Long Beach church late Wednesday, and officials said Thursday weather may have been a factor.
Long Beach Police Department accident investigations detectives are also looking into whether drugs and/or alcohol caused the crash, which occurred about 11:40 p.m. at the Church of Christ near 59th Street and Linden Avenue, said Nancy Pratt, a Police Department spokeswoman.
Patrol officers and Long Beach Fire Department crews were called to the site one block west of Atlantic Avenue and ended up taking the driver, who suffered minor injuries, to a local hospital, Pratt said.
"The collision caused extensive damage to the building," Pratt said Thursday, noting the car had to be towed from the site, which was boarded up by city crews.
Long Beach firefighters said the damage was so great a portion of the one-story church had to be red-tagged.
