A 22-year-old man was shot to death about 2:15 p.m. Thursday on the street in the 900 block of Rider Avenue in Salinas, fire Battalion Chief Herb Shoemaker said.
The man was shot once in the head and twice in the chest, he said. Police and paramedics performed CPR, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Woman lures man
into armed robbery
A woman's invitation to a man to come up to her apartment ended in an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The 34-year-old victim said he picked up the woman near South Sanborn Road and Fairview Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. to give her a ride. They went to her apartment in the 1000 block of John Street.
The victim said when he entered the apartment, two men wearing ski masks and armed with a handgun and knife demanded his wallet and other belongings, police said.
They ordered the man into a bedroom and all three fled, police said.

resident spots burglary
Two burglary suspects were nabbed Wednesday after an alert resident saw them taking electronic items out of a residence, police said.
The witness told police the two burglars got into a residence in the first block of John Circle about 10:15 a.m. and carried items out a window.
