Man shot in neck at Acosta Plaza
A 19-year-old man was airlifted to a San Francisco Bay Area trauma center early Saturday after he was shot in the neck in the 900 block of Acosta Plaza in Salinas, police said.
Police were dispatched to the location just after midnight to investigate a report of shots fired, but found no victims.
The wounded man was located a short time later at Natividad Medical Center, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the neck.
The victim said he had been walking in the Acosta Plaza area when a white vehicle drove up behind him and one of its occupants shot at him, police said.
He was transported by a relative to the hospital with injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening, police said, and later was flown to the Bay Area trauma center.
Police said the crime is being investigated as gang-related.
Teen arrested after robbery, foot chase
Salinas police arrested a teenager Saturday who allegedly robbed a business and two customers, then led officers on a foot chase through several backyards.
The youth entered a business in the 800 block of East Alisal Street about 2:30 p.m., brandished a handgun and demanded money, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. A customer inside the business called 911.

The suspect was apprehended in a backyard in the 100 block of Filice. The stolen money, a gun and a plastic bag the suspect had used as a mask were recovered in various yards, police said.
Police said the suspect is a known gang member.
