UPLAND - For the fifth year, the Colonies Partners at the Colonies Crossroads shopping center has helped make the Christmas wishes of needy children come true.

A total of 189 at-risk children received shopping sprees through the group's Holiday Miracles event.

Each child was given $200 to spend at the shopping center on Saturday.

With help from several organizations and individuals including Rep. Gary Miller, R-Brea, former Lakers star James Worthy and former Ram running back Eric Dickerson, the organization was able to sponsor nearly double the number of children than last year, according to a news release.

Families were selected based on need from National Community Renaissance properties and non-profits such as the Upland Unified School District Healthy Start Program and the Foothill Family Shelter.
