The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 234 is offering $500 scholarships to three high school graduates, one each from Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
The scholarship is for students who will graduate in the current school year and meet all qualifying criteria.
To apply, the student must have at least one present or past member of any union in his or her immediate family and type a 500-word essay on one of three topics related to labor and union movements. The application deadline is March 15.

The following students in the CSU Monterey Bay Master of Social Work program have each been awarded $5,000 scholarships: Janet Barajas, Gina Billeci, Katelyn Bryant, M. Veronica Gonzalez, Petra Mansfield, Linda Rios, Casey Swank and Sandra Valencia.
Air Force Reserve Airman Jordan A. Esquivel and Air Force Airmen Bradley B. Beetz and Adam L. Rivera have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Esquivel is a 2012 graduate of Monterey County Home Charter School and is the son of Sandra and Jorge Esquivel of Hollister.
Beetz is a 2008 graduate of Palma High School and is the son of Bruce Beetz of Hollister.
Rivera is a 2008 graduate of Monterey High School and is the son of Anne Rivera of Del Rey Oaks and grandson of Larry Marotta of Monterey.
