Airport district hosts public meeting
The Monterey Peninsula Airport District will hold a public meeting about its runway safety project at 9 a.m. Wednesday in its board room at the airport, 200 Fred Kane Drive.
The board will consider approving the project and certifying the final environmental impact report. The public will have a chance to comment.

Monterey, Santa Clara Boy Scouts merge
The Monterey Bay Area and Santa Clara County councils of the Boy Scouts of America have merged, scout officials have announced.
The new Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council will serve more than 20,000 scouts and 6,000 adult volunteers in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties under council president Dick Noack.
The merger goes into effect Dec. 31.

CHP class for teen drivers Tuesday
The California Highway Patrol's next "Start Smart" class for teenage drivers will be held at 6 p.
