A 61-year-old woman was killed when her car struck a light pole late Friday, police said Saturday.

The woman was identified as Besfanet England, said Coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz.

The woman was heading west in the 3100 block of Lomita Boulevard around 11 p.m. Friday when for some reason her car veered to the right and crashed into a pole, said Torrance police Sgt. Chris Kozak.

Firefighters from the Torrance Fire Department pronounced the woman dead at the scene, he said, adding she was the vehicle's only occupant.

The crash investigation closed Lomita Boulevard between Early and Telo avenues for about three hours, Kozak said.

Officers asked anyone with information about the crash to call the Torrance Police Department's Traffic Division at 310-618-5557.
