Man hit in face, carjacked

A carjacker struck a 20-year-old man in the face with the butt of a gun then took off with him in the car about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The victim was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of a Burger King, 41 S. Sanborn Road, when he heard a knock on his driver's side window and turned to see someone pointing a rifle or shotgun at him.

The assailant spoke to the victim in Spanish, struck him, then forced him over and got into the driver's seat.

The carjacker dropped off the victim at John Street and Sanborn, then sped away. The victim returned to Burger King to call police.

A witness told police that a male had attempted to open the door of another car in the drive-through lane just prior to the incident. That vehicle sped off, leaving the would-be carjacker standing there.
