SALINAS

Man slain; suspect is relative

A 30-year-old Salinas man was slain shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve at a home in the 1200 block of Second Avenue.

Police found Salvador Garcia lying unconscious in the driveway, suffering from a bullet wound to the upper torso. Officers started CPR, and were relieved by fire personnel, who determined a short time later that Garcia had died.

Investigators believe Garcia was shot after confronting another person in a family dispute. The shooter immediately fled, police said.

The assailant has been identified by family members as Francisco Navarro, 34, a brother-in-law of the victim. Navarro fled in an orange, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado truck, and his whereabouts are unknown at this time. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact detective D. Poulin at 758-7270.
