Apartment fire injures woman
A woman was injured in a fire that started in a bedroom of her apartment about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters said.
The fire at the three-unit complex at 1013 Mescal St. was sparked by a faulty wall plug, firefighters said.
The woman, the apartment's sole occupant, was taken to the hospital with lacerations to her hand, burns and smoke inhalation, firefighters said. She suffered lacerations after she broke a window to get her dog out, firefighters said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 10 minutes, but her two-bedroom unit was destroyed, with damage estimated at $50,000 to $70,000.
