Charles James was vacationing with relatives in Greenville and told detectives where he was, one day after being identified as the suspect in the Dec. 13 attack on the girl as she walked to school in the 2000 block of East Avenue J-8, Detective Brian Hudson of the sheriff's Special Victims Bureau said.
James was arrested early this morning at a home on Emile Street. He was being held in the Greenville County Detention Center without bail, awaiting extradition.
The girl told deputies she noticed the suspect following her. He then dragged the girl into some bushes and sexually attacked her repeatedly, Hudson said.
Five felony counts against James were filed Wednesday in Los Angeles.
