LONG BEACH - New Year's Eve revelers can get free systemwide Long Beach Transit bus trips on Monday.
The service starting at 5 p.m. is sponsored by Downtown Long Beach Associates in support of its New Year's celebration downtown.
"New Year's Eve is a big night for our community," Kevin Warfield, Long Beach Transit operations manager, said in a statement.
"While everyone is out having a good time, we focus on helping keep our roads and residents safe by offering a reliable way to get to and from home on public transportation."
Free boarding will be provided through 12:30 a.m. Tuesday; extended evening service will depart from the First Street Transit Gallery, located between Pine Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard, at 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.
Bus routes during extended hours will be abbreviated, so Long Beach Transit officials recommend passengers plan their trip by calling 562-591-2301 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, or by visiting the Transit and Visitor Information Center at First Street and Pine Avenue.
Route information can also be accessed at a touch screen kiosk at the same location and at www.lbtransit.com.
Live, in-person bus assistance will be available in downtown Long Beach on New Year's Eve.
