The victims, a boy and a girl both under 18, collapsed from their wounds about 7:20 p.m. on the third floor near the center's movie theaters. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately known, Redondo Beach police Lt. Joe Hoffman said.
Hoffman said police do not know where in the mall the stabbings occurred or the circumstances. Officers responded and checked people and vehicles leaving the shopping center, but did not call for evacuations or a lockdown. Movie patrons and other shoppers, most of whom had no idea a crime had occurred, were slowed in their exits.
Police officers were searching through the mall late Saturday for anyone who might have more information about what occurred.
Detectives planned to examine surveillance video to see if the crime was recorded, Hoffman said.
