Tree recycling offered
The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority will conduct a Christmas tree recycling program with drop-off and pickup service throughout the Salinas Valley.
Christmas trees will be picked up with regularly scheduled trash and recycling service from Wednesday through Jan. 21 in King City and unincorporated Monterey County; Jan. 7-11 in Gonzales, Greenfield and Soledad; and Wednesday through Jan. 22 in Salinas.
Customers are asked to remove all tinsel, lights, decorations and stands, and not to leave flocked trees. For pickup service, cut trees into 3-foot lengths.

Coast Guard Auxiliary names new officers
Keith Simmons, former Hartnell College instructor and Bandman University program manager, has been elected commander of Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 6-4.
Serving with him is Del Rey Oaks Mayor Jerry Edelen as vice flotilla commander.
Climate change talk scheduled for Jan. 9
Tama Oliver will present the latest science on climate change at a free presentation hosted by Sustainable Pacific Grove at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, Central and Forest avenues.

Library holds literacy tutor training
Orientation and training for volunteer literacy tutors for Monterey County Free Libraries will be held in two parts the following days and locations:
· 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Marina Branch Library, 190 Seaside Circle, Marina.
· 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Seaside Branch Library, 550 Harcourt Ave., Seaside.
