ONTARIO -- After leading law enforcemen authorities on a high-spead chase in a stolen tractor-trailer from Ontario to Pomona Wednesday night, the suspected thief was found hiding in a Pomona neighborhood by a K9 unit, according to Ontario Police officials.

The unidentified suspect was located shortly before 10 p.m. after he bailed from the Freightline tractor near Towne Avenue and Philadelphia Street in Pomona, according to Sgt. David McBride.

The chase began in Ontario around 8 p.m. when the owner of the tractor reported it had been stolen from the south side of Ontario, McBride said.

The chase stayed mainly on surface streets from Ontario to Pomona reaching speeds of abou 80 miles per hour. When the pursuit reached Pomona, the driver reportedly jumped out of the Freightliner and ran into the neighborhood to hide.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's helicopter was called into assist in searching for the driver only described as a male wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Law enforcement officials set up a perimeter around Towne Avenue and Philadelphia Street to search for him.

A trailer was not attached to the tractor when it was reportedly stolen.
