LONG BEACH - A Long Beach Police motorcycle officer was injured in a traffic collision Wednesday when he hit a raised center median and struck a tree.

According to police, the 18-year veteran officer was traveling eastbound on Spring Street at Rutgers Avenue when the accident occurred at 12:18 p.m. No other vehicles were involved.

He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and an investigation is ongoing, police said.

Spring Street between Clark Avenue and Bellflower Boulevard was temporarily closed Wednesday afternoon following the accident.
