Work resumes on Rocky Creek viaduct
Daytime construction work resumes today on the $11 million viaduct project on Highway 1 at Rocky Creek viaduct.
Crews will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the viaduct is closed 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.
Highway 1 at Rocky Creek is closed overnight Thursday, before work resumes Sunday. One-way traffic signals will be in effect, causing 10-minute delays. The road at Rocky Creek is closed overnight Sundays through Thursdays until mid-February. No overnight closures will occur late Friday or Saturday.

Library holds literacy tutor training
Orientation and training for volunteer literacy tutors for Monterey County Free Libraries will be held in two parts the following days and locations:

· 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Seaside Branch Library, 550 Harcourt Ave., Seaside.

Salinas mayor to speak to GOP women's group
Joe Gunter, mayor of Salinas, will be the guest speaker at a luncheon held by the Monterey Peninsula Republican Women Federated Club at noon Jan. 10, at Rancho Cañada Golf Club, 4860 Carmel Valley Road.
