The El Segundo City Council will hold a special Tuesday meeting to interview candidates and potentially select one of them to fill the vacant city treasurer's post.
Assuming members decide to make an appointment, the person selected would serve until April 2016 - for the remainder of former Treasurer Chris Powell's term. He resigned abruptly in November for personal reasons after winning election in April.
Not long afterward, the council chose to accept resumes from interested applicants in hopes of appointing a new treasurer, rather than calling for a special election. (Members held that option open, however).
According to materials from the City Clerk's Office, seven applicants are scheduled for 15-minute interviews on Tuesday.
They are: Don Brann, a former El Segundo councilman and past Wiseburn schools superintendent; Crista Binder, a chief management analyst with Los Angeles World Airports and former assistant treasurer for the city of Los Angeles; Michel van Biezen, a program manager at Raytheon; and Matthew Robinson, a financial/portfolio analyst with Analytic Investors; Kevin Haggerty, a self-employed engineering consultant with H&A Systems Engineering; Milan Cvejic, a senior associate with The Gores Group; and Samantha Lee, a senior management analyst with Los Angeles World Airports.
The council meeting starts at 4 p.m. Tuesday at 350 Main St.
