A tree trimmer who was electrocuted over the weekend in Rancho Palos Verdes was identified Monday as Enrique Torres of Cudahy.

Coroner's officials have determined the 31-year-old's death was accidental, a spokesman said.

Torres was working Saturday afternoon at 23 Packet Road near Abalone Cove when the accident occurred, knocking out power to nearby residences.

The worker had gone up about 25 feet in a pine tree to finish trimming its branches when his 10-foot pruning shear came into contact with an overhead electrical cable, said Peter Melton, a spokesman for the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health, which had investigators on scene Saturday.

An initial investigation showed that he hung his tool on the electrical wire, triggering the charge, Melton said.

The agency will have six months to complete its review. Melton identified the worker's employer as Ben's Gardening Services, which has an address on Denker Avenue in Harbor Gateway.
