The number of major crimes at Los Angeles International Airport dropped by 26.7 percent in 2012, according to statistics released Monday by airport police.
The airport reported only three serious crimes against people in 2012 - one robbery and two aggravated assaults - down from five in 2011. It reported 356 incidents of serious property crimes, including burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft, down from 485 similar crimes in 2011.
Reports of less serious crimes, such as battery, weapons violations, drug offenses and public intoxication, also fell by about 7 percent in 2012, according to airport police.
