Lomita pet owners with unlicensed dogs or cats risk hefty fines beginning Wednesday, when officers from the county Department of Animal Care and Control canvass the city.
License fees range from $7.50 to $60 for dogs and $5 to $10 for cats.
Pet owners without the appropriate license are subject to a penalty equal to the license fee, as well as delinquency charges and a $40 field enforcement fee.
Animal licenses are available at http://animalcare.lacounty.gov or by visiting the local county animal shelter at 216 W. Victoria St. in Carson.
Residents will not be able to pay for a license at City Hall during the time county animal control officers are canvassing Lomita.
