ONTARIO -- The westbound 60 Freeway off-ramp at Grove Avenue in Ontario was shut down for more than an hour after a bag of flesh and bones was found Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators concluded the remains belonged to an animal, California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Mario Lopez said Wednesday evening.

"Anytime we see something like this which may be human, we take all precautions in investigating the situation," Lopez said.

It was unclear if an officer stumbled upon the bag or if someone alerted officers to the item.

The offramp was shut down around 4 p.m. according to Caltrans officials, as investigators determined if the remains were or were not human.

Investigators have not identified what type of animal remains were in the bag or if there will be further investigation into the find.
