Inmate from work party sought
Monterey County Sheriff's deputies are looking for an inmate who walked away from a work detail Wednesday.
James Rimbey, serving a three-year sentence for burglary, was last seen by a witness running toward the Natividad Creek Park soccer fields about 2:15 p.m. A search conducted by personnel from the Sheriff's Office, the Salinas Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Monterey County Probation Department failed to locate Rimbey.
Rimbey, 29, isn't considered to be violent, but anyone with information is asked to call 911.
Burglary suspect arrested in big-rig
A burglary suspect was arrested early Wednesday by police after he allegedly tried to break into the trailer of a big-rig in a motel parking lot.
Police were dispatched at 2 a.m. to a Motel 6 in the 1200 block of De La Torre, where the reporting party stated he was asleep in the truck when he heard someone breaking into the locked trailer.
Officers found Fabian Puga, 21, near the rear of the vehicle, but he refused to follow orders, entered the trailer and refused to come out, police said.
After an hour of talks, police entered the trailer and arrested Puga, who police said became combative and attempted to kick officers.
Puga was taken to Monterey County Jail and booked on charges of burglary, resisting arrest and an outstanding felony warrant.
