ANAHEIM - A man suspected in a fatal shooting in Norwalk was in custody today after his arrest in Anaheim, where he barricaded himself inside an apartment building. | » POLICE NEWS
Anaheim police on Wednesday afternoon were assisting Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies as they attempted to apprehend the suspect, who holed up inside an apartment building in the 1200 block of East La Palma Avenue, Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said.
Several people fled the apartment when police arrived, he said. It was unclear if any of them were arrested.
The suspect remained inside and just after 6 p.m., as authorities were preparing a possible SWAT response, the suspect surrendered without incident, Dunn said.
The man's name was not made available this morning.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department did not immediately release information on the arrest but previously reported that 31-year-old Jimmy Deleon- Hernandez was shot and killed in Norwalk on Jan. 2.
Deputies responded around 4 a.m. on Jan. 2 to a call of shots fired in the 14000 block of Gard Avenue, near Rosecrans Avenue, according to Deputy Don Walker of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
"Deputies checked the neighborhood and area hospitals and located a gunshot victim who had been reported to have been shot near the location," Walker said.
Deleon-Hernandez, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at a hospital, Walker said.
A motive for the shooting was not made available.
Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
