  • UPLAND - Pilots performing at this weekend's Cable Air Show gave a select audience a sneak peek of their routines on Friday.

The pilots practiced at Cable Airport in front of fourth graders from Cabrillo Elementary School, Upland senior citizens and OPARC, a Montclair-based nonprofit dedicated to helping people with disabilities.

Cabrillo Elementary was invited to attend the preview event for the fifth year in a row.

"We can see them practice from our school," fourth-grade teacher Diana Pipersky said.

So school officials asked if they could attend the practice days.

"They were happy to do it," Pipersky said.

"Cable Airport has been very accommodating."

Sammy Mason, 18 of Santa Paula, will be performing in the show for the second time. Mason, who flies a Pitts biplane, said he has enjoyed participating in the annual air show.

"What I really like about it is it's a family airport," Mason said. "Bob Cable is here, his dad is here. They put on the show. It's real nice to talk to them. It's a great family and a great air show."
