A male on the second floor of a building near Gardena fired four shots at officers who were conducting an investigation in the area Tuesday night, police said.

The gunfire was reported just before 10 p.m. at the corner of Rosecrans and Vermont avenues, said Officer Christopher No of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations section.

Officers searching for the suspect set up a perimeter and were diverting traffic in the area, No said.

Some people were stranded inside a 7-Eleven store near the intersection, KCAL9 reported.
