LONG BEACH — Traffic accident investigators have determined that a 50-year-old female bicyclist died Tuesday night from injuries she sustained after being hit while crossing against a red light.

The woman, a resident of Long Beach, was hit at 7:17 p.m. by a 19-year-old Los Alamitos man at the intersection of Atherton Street and Bellflower Boulevard, according to Long Beach police spokesman Sgt. David Marander.

The driver was headed south at the intersection, traveling with a green light, Marander said.

The woman was traveling westbound on Atherton, when she attempted to cross Bellflower against the red light, Marander said.

The driver stopped, rendered assistance and called paramedics.

The driver isn't facing any charges, according to the police spokesman.

Paramedics took the woman to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries at 11:17 p.m. Marander said, adding that her identification will be released pending notification of next of kin.
