The Mermaid is back on the market.

After six months of flexible deadlines and a cycle of mourning and rejoicing for the 62-year-old Hermosa Beach restaurant's patrons, the escrow agreement between the investment group One Pier Avenue LLC and Mermaid owner Diana Albergate has come to an end.

Albergate said, unfortunately, that end did not come by way of a completed sale.

She said the property is no longer in escrow and that she is actively looking for a buyer. The Mermaid will remain open on weekends until a sale is final.

"Everything is status quo, except we did not complete the sale," said Albergate, the stepdaughter of the restaurant's late owner, Quentin "Boots" Thelan, and a representative for the Thelen Family Trust.

Representatives from One Pier Avenue LLC and Albergate's real estate agent, Bob Healey of CBRE, were not immediately available for comment. If One Pier Avenue LLC wishes to complete the sale, it will need to make a new offer and enter into a new escrow agreement.
