UPLAND - City Councilman Gino Filippi will meet with friends and supporters for a late New Year's lunch and discussion of public safety, housing and economic development.

The reception will be at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Magic Lamp Inn, 8189 Foothill Blvd. in Rancho Cucamonga.

Co-hosting the event with Filippi will be San Bernardino County Supervisors Gary Ovitt and Janice Rutherford; Upland Councilman Brendan Brandt; Tommy Morrow, Publisher Inland Valley News; former Upland Police Chief Martin Thouvenell; Richard Lewis of the Lewis Operating Corporation in Upland; Dr. Mark Comunale and Dr. Peter White.

"This is an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss issues that concern residents and local business owners as well as meet the new owners of the Magic Lamp Inn," Filippi said in a news release.

The entree choices include salmon with Bearnaise sauce and a half-pan roasted chicken.

Soft drinks are included.

The featured wine will be Petite Sirah presented by local winemaker Brian Brandt of the Brandt Family Winery in Upland.

Filippi was first elected to the City Council in November 2010. He is an Upland native, 40-year resident of the Upland and San Antonio Heights area and is co-owner of Filippi Winery.

Currently, Filippi serves as a marketing and business development consultant, and writes a wine and history column for the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

He has spent more than 20 years as an active community volunteer serving in such organizations as Rotary, Root 66 Community Garden & Vineyard Project, Coy D. Estes Senior Apartments, and the Cooper Regional History Museum in Upland.
