NPS slaying suspect still not arraigned
Four months after his arrest, a Naval Postgraduate School professor accused of killing his ex-wife was still not arraigned on murder charges at a hearing Wednesday.
Lawrence R. Jones, 70, has been held without bail in Monterey County Jail since September, but his arraignment has been postponed several times.
Police say Norife "Janie" Jones, 29, was shot and dismembered by Jones in late August or early September.
Jones' Santa Cruz attorney, Paul Meltzer, requested the delay until Feb. 5 because of the large amount of discovery documents in the case.

Tobacco report gives county failing grades
Monterey County's cities received failing grades from the American Lung Association in its report "State of Tobacco Control 2013," released Wednesday.
The report looks at policies for smoke-free outdoor environments, smoke-free housing and reducing sales of tobacco products.
The county's 12 cities received mostly F grades in those categories, with the exception of Salinas, which received a D on smoke-free housing policies.
Unincorporated areas received a C grade overall, helped by an A for reducing sales of tobacco products.
