LONG BEACH — A 25-year-old man was shot to death Wednesday night at a bus stop, police said.
Long Beach police are investigating the murder as gang-related, according to Nancy Pratt, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.
The victim, identified as Levert Johnson, was shot multiple times at 8:40 p.m. in the 1700 block of Cherry Avenue, according to Pratt.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Johnson was standing at a bus stop with a group when he was confronted by a male subject, Pratt said.
Words were exchanged between the two, and the suspect then pulled out a handgun, shot Johnson and fled on foot, the spokesperson said.
Johnson was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Police did not release any information on the suspect, including a description. The investigation is ongoing.
