The list also includes a retired district employees, two college professors and a community volunteer. The board will conduct interviews and consider a candidate to fill the vacancy left by former member Paul Vincent Avila at tonight's meeting.
Avila resigned from his seat Dec. 4 after being elected to the City Council in November.
At his last meeting, Avila was concerned about how the board would fill his vacancy, hinting that he did not want the outgoing board Crowe to be chosen. Crowe lost his re-election bid to Steve Garcia.
"I sense there is a movement to appoint one particular person that does not have the mandate of the community," Avila said at his last meeting. At the Dec. 14, the board heard from several parents who advocated for the return of Crowe. The board instead opted to fill the vacancy through the application process.
Candidates besides Crowe include: Sandra Kaye Escamilla, Michael Cory Flores, Joseph J Laponis, Flora R Juarez Martinez, and Robert Anthony Ortega.
Ontario-Montclair School District board of directors meets tonight, 7 p.m. at Central Language Academy, 415 East G Street.
