Gunmen rob register, customers
Two gunmen robbed Olivia's Cafe near Oldtown Salinas late Thursday, snatching money from the owner and four customers, police said.
The gunmen were armed with semiautomatic pistols and wore black hoodies and sunglasses.
One man got money from the cash register while the other "kept customers at bay," police Cmdr. Sheldon Bryan said.
They fled the restaurant, at 14 Station Place, about 6 p.m. and are still at large, police said.
Bryan would not disclose how much money they took.
He said the men were in their mid-30s. No one was injured in the robbery, he said.
Firefighters discover odd odor, but no fire
The Marina Fire Department evacuated patients from a doctor's office early Monday because they mistakenly thought an X-ray machine was on fire, according to a department press release.
Firefighters went to Doctors on Duty at 3130 Del Monte Blvd. on a report of a medical emergency, the department said.
Firefighters discovered a strange smell in the X-ray room, the release said, but a technician later told them it was just "an electrical short."
The release did not say where the electrical short was.
