LOS ANGELES - A bail hearing for Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez was postponed Tuesday as prosecutors and defense lawyers negotiate new terms for his release.

Noguez is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 1 for a bail hearing.

His defense attorneys contend that Noguez's bail should be cut by more than half under the new bail schedule, which took effect after the new year. Noguez will still have to prove that the money used to post bail is clean.

Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez was arrested in October at his home in Huntington Park following a year-long corruption probe into charges that he helped lower the property tax bills of wealthy campaign contributors.

He is charged with 24 counts, including accepting bribes, perjury, conspiracy and misappropriation by a public officer. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in state prison.
