Police received a call at 11:55 a.m. regarding a briefcase sitting outside the courthouse. San Bernardino County sheriff's bomb and arson personnel also came to the scene and taped off the area where the briefcase was found, said police Lt. Paul Williams.
Police shut down Arrowhead Avenue between Court and Fifth streets until the bomb squad could remove the brief case.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller said no court proceedings were taking place when the case was found, so no evacuation was necessary, but as of about 2 p.m., authorities had not let anyone back into the courthouse.
Miller said bomb squad personnel were making sure the area was safe before letting people return to the building.
