UPLAND - Members of the community gave their input on Upland Unified School District's next superintendent during a forum held Tuesday at the district.

La Quinta-based firm Leadership Associates hosted the forum as a way to get input from the community on characteristics they should be looking for in the new hire.

The district's board of trustees hired the firm to recruit a new superintendent.

Gary Rutherford served as the district's superintendent of the last 8 years.

He was hired as superintendent for the Desert Sands Unified School District.

Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Sherri Black is serving as interim superintendent until the firm finds a permanent replacement.

The associates asked forum attendees to name the characteristics, personal and professional, they would like in the next superintendent.

They were also asked about the district's strengths and challenges.

Community members may also send responses to lhunt@leadershipassociates.org. In addition, a survey will be listed on the Upland Unified School District's website uusd-ca.schoolloop.com after January 22, 2013.
