A San Pedro mother who allegedly beat up a 12-year-old girl involved in a scuffle with her daughter was charged with assault Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Amber Lynn Gutierrez, 33, was arrested Tuesday when she voluntarily appeared for an interview with detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department's Harbor Division station.

The District Attorney's Office charged her with assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury. She was held on $100,000 bail.

Gutierrez allegedly took part in a fight Jan. 14 in an alley in the 1300 block of West Gaffey Street, police said. Her daughter and the other girl, both students at Dana Middle School, had arranged to fight there, police said.

Gutierrez joined her daughter, along with the girl's aunt. Each took part in the fight and assaulted the other girl, police said.

The fight was recorded on video and broadcast by KTLA news.

Gutierrez is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at Long Beach court. If convicted as charged, she could face up to seven years in prison.
