LONG BEACH — A woman who jumped from a downtown parking structure Sunday was in critical condition Monday, police said.

The woman, who was identified as an out-state-resident in her 20 s, allegedly jumped from the parking structure located on the southwest corner at First Street and Pine Avenue at about 1 p.m., said Sgt. Aaron Eaton, a Long Beach Police Department spokesman.

"She sustained head trauma and was in critical condition after she arrived at the hospital," Eaton said Monday.

Eaton declined to discuss the reason for the suicide attempt, noting the complicated nature of such cases. Once the woman is well enough she will likely undergo psychiatric evaluation, he said.

The sergeant also urged those struggling with suicidal thoughts, or people who know someone at risk, to get help by calling the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health's Suicide Prevention Crisis Line, 877-727-4747. The toll-free line is available 24 hours a day.
