SEAL BEACH — A toppled construction crane blocked the transition road from the eastbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway to the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Seal Beach this afternoon, but no one was hurt in the mishap.
The construction crane fell over for unknown reasons about 4:24 p.m. near the Long Beach border, said California Highway Patrol Officer John Latosquin.
CHP officers were directing motorists to get off the transition road by backing up to the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, Latosquin said.
Latosquin said the crane will probably need to be cut in half and then removed, which might take two days.
The crane is being used in work on the Orange County Transportation Authority's West County Connectors Project.
The $277 million project is designed to improve traffic flow by directly connecting car-pool lanes on the San Diego (405), the San Gabriel (605) and Garden Grove (22) freeways.
