LONG BEACH — Willard Elementary School went on voluntary lockdown for 90 minutes Tuesday morning while police searched the area for a stolen vehicle suspect, police said.
The lockdown was lifted about 9:30 a.m., but the suspect was not found and remains at large, Long Beach Police Department Sgt. Aaron Eaton said.
The incident began about 8 a.m. near Obispo Avenue and Anaheim Street when police spotted a stolen vehicle. The driver ran from police, who followed the suspect to 11th Street and Orizaba Avenue.
Police set up a perimeter and searched the area.
Nearby Willard Elementary, 1055 Freeman Ave., chose to go on cautionary lockdown while police searched the area, Eaton said.
