Gunman robs ice cream vendor

An ice cream vendor was robbed near Navajo and North Main streets about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Salinas police said.

A man bought something from the 20-year-old vendor and returned minutes later to rob him, showing the victim a gun protruding from his waistband. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in an older gray Honda.

The robber is described as about 20 years old, with tattoos of black stars on the front and underside of his neck area, police said.

Robbers assault man, get nothing

A man was assaulted in an attempted armed robbery while walking on the 200 block of Reservation Road about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Marina police said.

The victim was approached by two men, who demanded personal property, hit him in the head with a handgun and assaulted him, police said. They fled empty-handed.

The victim was treated for injuries.
